Hi there, I’m Jennifer Roland Cadiente. I’m the Creative’s Virtual Assistant, serving authors, course creators, and community owners. Welcome to my channel. I’m excited you’re here. Today I want to talk about which tasks you can delegate in your creative business. So I created this checklist and you can figure out, you know, what tasks you do. Let’s say email marketing, email list management, and social media posts. You look at how often you do these things. So email marketing, if you do it, you know, once a week, every month, then, you know, maybe you think that’s a four on frequency. It’s something you do pretty often. Email list management, maybe you do that once a month. And social media posts, you probably do those very frequently. Email marketing is typically one of the most effective ways of marketing our businesses. So I’m going to say that has the most impact. Email list management is also really high because if your email list gets, you know, clogged with people that aren’t opening it or people who forget that they have joined and report you for spam, then you’re going to not be able to deliver as well. So your messages aren’t going to get to the people that would actually be very excited to buy from you. And social media posts for this, I feel like it’s about middle of the road. So it is something that if you love to do it, obviously keep doing it. If you don’t love social media, everyone’s going to be able to tell from your posts. So, you know, it’s not going to kill your business to not be on social. It’s a great way to build visibility and give your loyal fans something to share with their networks. But it’s not, you know, it’s not the top. It’s not the bottom. So simplicity. So this is, you know, how complicated is the task? Is it something that you can just say, hey, do X, Y, and Z, and we’re done? That’s a very simple task. If it’s something that is a little bit more detailed, maybe call that a three, something that’s super complicated to explain, call that a five. So email marketing, many, many steps. So I’m going to call that a complicated task, email list management. It’s complicated if you don’t know how to do it already. If you are explaining the task to someone who does know how to do it, it’s probably not as complicated, but I think it’s still a pretty complex task. It does have a fair number of steps. Social media posts can be pretty complicated. If you’re looking at, you know, writing, scheduling, adapting to all the different channels that you use, that can be a lot of stuff to explain. And here, these two are, I think are most important. How much do you love it? If you hate writing emails, you would call that a one. Must come from me. How important is it that your pieces sound like you? If you have a really good ghostwriter, then you can give them the topics. They can write the draft. You can, you know, give it a look and make sure that it sounds like you. If you don’t have that access, then I would say it must come from me. So we’re going to say that that’s not someone that you have on your team. So we’ll call that a must come from me. Email list management. I don’t know a lot of people who really love that task. So I’m just going to assume that that’s a one for a lot of people. And also, that’s something that’s easy to have someone else do. So that’s not a must come from me. Social media posts. I’m going to say I love them a lot. That’s why I do them for clients. Not just for myself. Because I really enjoy keeping up to date on the different social media channels and what’s working and what’s not working and writing posts in different people’s voices. So must come from me. I’m going to call that a three. Because I think it’s easier to find people who can ghostwrite your social media posts than it is, you know, to get started with that. Say with email marketing. And now here’s the real question. Who else could do it? So if you’re, you know, really bootstrapping your creative business, you might not have access to a virtual assistant or any other members of a team to do these things for you. So I’ve seen a lot of people, you know, maybe get their team to do it. Same with the list management and the social media posts. However, these are all things that I think are really ripe for outsourcing to a virtual assistant. As long as it’s someone who you trust to get your voice right. You know, sometimes with email marketing, it does take a little bit. You might, you might break email marketing up into multiple tasks where, you know, you’re looking at writing the emails. And that might be something that you absolutely love and must come from me. But the scheduling is something that you absolutely hate and could be done by a virtual assistant. So you can think about things in that manner. I think, you know, a lot of times you’ll hear, “oh, you should delegate that.” “You should delegate everything that you absolutely don’t have to be the one doing.” And I think that really takes away the concept of, you know, how much you love it. I can’t remember, I think it was Jenna Kutcher who said, you know, a few years back that she would never delegate her social media posts and DMs because she just loves doing that. And she loves being able to tell people, you know, if you’re hearing from us in the comments, you’re hearing from me. You’re not hearing from, you know, some random member of my team. It’s always me. So that’s why I really, I thought it was important to include how much I love it on this list. And a lot of people also don’t think whether it really needs to come from them or could come from someone else. I hope that this checklist and this discussion of how to use it has been helpful.
